New York Vacation

Posted in Destination

The Big Apple has always fascinated travelers for over a century. The fascination with this city that started from the emergence of skyscrapers has somehow ceased to vanquish. Perhaps, there is something more unique about this city that continues to beacon hundreds of tourists. Whatever the mystery, New York remains among the most loved destinations in the world. Here are some tips to enjoy the top attractions and make your stay even more rewarding.

Time Square & Central Park
The most popular spot in the city, Time Square, is also the most overcrowded and extremely overpriced. The best time to enjoy it is at night when all the billboards come to life and street peddlerss have already left. For those who love popular places but without large crowds, they should visit Central Park. Get a map of the park and try to visit the purpose-built animal facilities housing polar bears, seals, birds and penguins. Still, the best attraction inside the park is the lake, which offers row boating from April to October. In winter, the same lake converts into skateboarding playground.

Statue of Liberty
You don’t have to wait in long lines to visit Statue of Liberty. Actually, you can get the best views free of cost. On your next vacation, take a free ride on the Staten Island Ferry, which connects Manhattan with Staten Island. It is a 25 minute boat ride that passes near the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. You just have to wait in line for the return trip that provides view of the Verrazano Bridge and Brooklyn. Several boat operators also offer paid trips to Liberty Island.

Empire State Building
A visit to the iconic Empire State Building is a must. There are more than 110 million visitors who line up every year to enjoy the breathtaking New York skyline. Therefore, the wait to the top of 86th floor observatory can be daunting. Buying a city pass allows you to bypass long lines and go straight to the top. An express pass is another option but it is more than double the original price. For those who don’t want these passes, the best time to visit is early in the morning or between 5pm and 7pm. There is an additional charge to visit the top 102nd floor but the views are not as great as from the 86th floor outdoor observatory.

New York Hotels
For great deals on New York accommodation, stay away from the city centre. The hotel rates in central Manhattan are always a lot more than the rates at a similar quality hotel, elsewhere. You can easily travel to midtown by taking a subway. In most cases, city centre is only a short 20 minute walk from most locations in Upper East Side, Chelsea and Greenwich Village.
